The Act on the Promotion of Immigrant Integration sets the objective of providing immigrants with individual support for integration as soon as they arrive, at which point they have the greatest need for information and support.
Under the Act on the Promotion of Immigrant Integration, the authorities must provide information to immigrants on their rights and obligations in Finnish society and working life in connection with the notification of a residence permit decision, the registration of their right of residence, the issuance of a residence card or the registration of their municipality of residence and population data.
The authorities applying the Act on the Promotion of Immigrant Integration are responsible for producing basic information content and keeping it up to date. The Employment, Development and Administrative Services Centre (KEHA Centre) is responsible for coordinating and translating the information and distributing it to the authorities.
InfoFinland app
The KEHA Centre implements the basic information about Finnish society and working life referred to in the Act on the Promotion of Immigrant Integration in the form of the InfoFinland app (formerly known as the Work Help Finland app). The app is available in 26 languages. The app is supplemented by the InfoFinland website maintained by the KEHA Centre in 12 languages, to which the app directs users.
A promotional card of the basic information app (InfoFinland) is handed to all those migrating to Finland together with a notice of a residence permit decision, registration of right of residence, issue of residence card or when the municipality of residence and population information data are registered. The promotional card is distributed by the so-called statutory bodies, namely the Finnish Immigration Service, the Digital and Population Data Services Agency, or Finnish missions abroad. These statutory distributors place orders for the promotional card according to the distribution instructions.
Other parties, such as municipal guidance and counselling services, maternity and child health clinics and health centres and libraries, may order the promotional card directly from the printing company using a separate ordering system and provide their customers with the cards. The card is available in packs of 50.
The KEHA Centre produces the texts of the InfoFinland app and online service in cooperation with the authorities.
The instructions for ordering the promotional card are available online at kotoutuminen.fi.
The Welcome to Finland guide, which previously served as the basic information, will no longer be updated and published.
