From the beginning of next year, the payment periods for reimbursement of social assistance costs under the Integration Act would be shortened from three years to one. The amendments to the Act on the Promotion of Immigrant Integration would enter into force on 1 January 2025. The proposed amendment is being circulated for comments until 9 August.

The government pays the wellbeing services counties, the municipalities of the Province of Åland and the Social Insurance Institution a reimbursement for the cost of providing social assistance to persons receiving international protection, their family members and persons receiving temporary protection who have a municipality of residence.

Technical corrections would also be made to the Integration Act. The purpose of the technical and linguistic corrections to the Swedish-language Act would be to improve the comprehensibility of the Swedish-language Act and to harmonise the language commonly used in legislation as well as the terminology used in the Act.
