Advisory Board for Ethnic Relations (Etno) is an important actor promoting good relations between population groups at national level. Etno is appointed by the Government and its work is coordinated by the Ministry of Justice. In addition to the national advisory board, there are also seven regional advisory boards for ethnic relations in Finland.
The purpose of Etno is to promote dialogue and cooperation between immigrants, ethnic, cultural and religious minorities, the authorities, political parties and non-governmental organisations.
Etno brings together national, regional and local-level experts in immigration work and both the authorities and organisations are represented in the advisory board. Etno serves as an expert network in matters concerning immigration, promotion of immigrant integration, non-discrimination and dialogue between population groups.
