Signs of downtrend reversal in employment of foreign nationals
There were 44,758 unemployed foreign jobseekers in Finland at the end of August. The number of unemployed foreign jobseekers increased 19 per cent year-on-year. In addition to the poor economic outlook, the increase can be explained by the growth in foreign labour in Finland.
- In August, the number of unemployed foreign jobseekers totalled 44,758, which is 16 per cent of all unemployed jobseekers. The number of unemployed foreign jobseekers increased 19 per cent (7,150 persons) from the previous year.
- The number of unemployed foreign jobseekers continues to increase. The growth is driven not only by the poor economy but also by the increase in foreign labour.
- Classified by nationality, Indian, Chinese and Bangladeshi are among the groups where the increase in the number of unemployed persons has been higher than average. Ukrainians are the largest single group among unemployed foreign jobseekers.
- According to the Labour Force Survey, the employment rate of foreign nationals was 61.3 per cent in the second quarter of 2024.
- A significant peak was seen in the employment of foreign nationals in 2022. The figure now appears to have returned to its previous moderate growth track. This is likely to suggest that the downward trend in employment caused by the recession has reversed
