Teachers face immigrants of different ages in their work. In the role of a teacher, you can support the development of readiness and competence as well as provide material in the person’s native language or plain language.

Integration training Integration training includes Finnish or Swedish language teaching, as well as teaching in reading and writing when needed or other training that promotes access to employment or further training.

Compulsory education to be extended in 2021

As stated in Prime Minister Marin’s Government Programme, compulsory education will be extended in 2021. With the extension, the minimum school leaving age will be raised to 18 years and student guidance and welfare services will be improved.
Online and digital services support language and social studies

Due to the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak, contact teaching in liberal adult education institutions and adult basic education has been suspended. Educational institutions provide distance teaching, taking into account students’ learning abilities and other opportunities available. The Centre of Expertise for Immigrant Integration has put together multilingual materials for independent studies in subjects such as languages and social studies, and for supporting integration.
